Chiswick Curtain Maker

Made To Measure Curtains And Blinds In Chiswick, W4

Katherine has lived in Chiswick for most of her adult life. The business has been making curtains and blinds since 2008, and although the studio itself is now a few minutes away in Acton, Chiswick is still home.

That shows up in practical ways:

  • We know the houses. The terraces, the mansion flats and the riverside conversions all behave differently, and we have measured a great many of them.
  • Fabric is shown to you at home, at your own window and in your own light.
  • Being nearby means we can come back and check a proportion before anything is cut.

We have worked on houses and flats right across Chiswick, from the Victorian terraces off the High Road to the riverside flats along the Thames. Ten of those projects are set out further down this page, with what we made and what each one cost.

As your local Chiswick curtain maker, we design and make bespoke curtains, blinds and soft furnishings that suit your home’s architecture and the way you actually live in it.

What Curtains And Blinds Suit Chiswick Bay And Sash Windows?

Chiswick is not one kind of house, which is exactly why a standard solution rarely works.

The terraces off the High Road tend to give you a generous bay at the front, a much plainer window at the back, and a top floor where the ceiling drops away just as you want height. The riverside flats have the opposite problem: wide, low glazing, wonderful light, and very little privacy from the towpath.

So most Chiswick projects end up layered rather than simple:

  • A blackout Roman blind behind curtains in a street-facing bedroom
  • A sheer roller that keeps the river view without putting you in a shop window
  • A covered lath and fascia where a pole would have cut across the top of the glass
  • Roman blinds fitted inside each section of a bay, so the architecture still reads

Bays are where it most often goes wrong. A bay needs the track shaped to it, and enough wall either side for the curtains to stack back off the glass.

‘In a bay, the real question is whether there is room for the curtains to stack back off the glass. Get that wrong and you lose the daylight you were trying to make the most of.’ – Katherine Brown

Made To Measure Curtains For Chiswick Homes

Made-to-measure curtains are one of the most effective ways to elevate a Chiswick interior. They soften period features, bring cohesion to open-plan spaces, and allow you to introduce colour, texture and pattern in a considered way.

Our bespoke curtain service includes:

  • Pinch pleats and triple pleats for timeless elegance
  • Wave headings for a relaxed, contemporary look
  • Interlined and blackout curtains for bedrooms and street-facing rooms
  • Natural fabrics including linen and wool blends

Every curtain is designed for its own window, so that proportion, fullness and drape are judged for that opening rather than approximated.

Which Blinds Work Best In Chiswick Homes?

Blinds are often an ideal solution in Chiswick homes, either on their own or layered with curtains. They offer excellent light control, privacy and practicality, particularly in kitchens, bathrooms, home offices and street-facing rooms.

Popular blind options include:

  • Roman blinds for sash and bay windows
  • Wooden Venetian blinds for timeless character and flexibility
  • Sheer roller blinds to filter light while maintaining privacy
  • Blackout blinds discreetly layered behind curtains
  • Motorised blinds for tall or hard-to-reach windows

Blinds and curtains are frequently combined to create interiors that feel both elegant and functional.

Chiswick Curtain And Blind Questions

Do you fit the curtains and blinds as well as make them?

Yes. Measuring, making and fitting are all part of the service, and each is itemised separately on your estimate so you can see what it costs and why. We measure your windows ourselves, everything is made in our West London workroom, and we come back to fit it.

Where can I see fabric samples in Chiswick?

For larger projects we hold a consultation in your own home, going through samples at your own window and in your own light, which is where a fabric really shows what it will do. Smaller projects usually begin with photos of your windows and rough sizes so we can have a useful first conversation. The studio is a few minutes away in Acton, so coming back to check a detail is straightforward.

How much do made-to-measure curtains and blinds cost in Chiswick?

Bespoke curtains start at £900 per window and typically land between £2,000 and £3,000 per window with track and fitting included. Roman blinds start at £650 per blind and roller blinds at £200. The ten completed Chiswick projects listed on this page run from £2,450 for two bedrooms to £18,800 for a four-room scheme.

Which blinds work best in Chiswick bay and sash windows?

Roman blinds fitted inside each section of a bay keep the architecture reading as it was built, rather than flattening it behind one wide blind. On sash windows a Roman blind sits well in the reveal. Sheer roller blinds suit the riverside flats, filtering the light and the sightline from the towpath without closing the view down. Blackout Roman blinds layered behind curtains are the usual answer in street-facing bedrooms.

Which parts of Chiswick do you cover?

We cover Chiswick and W4, from the Victorian terraces off the High Road to the riverside flats along the Thames, along with neighbouring Ealing, Acton and the rest of West London. The workroom is in Acton, a few minutes away.

Curtain And Blind Guides For Victorian And Edwardian Homes

Blinds For Victorian And Edwardian Homes

Most of Chiswick was built in exactly this period, and these houses have particular habits: deep bays, sash windows of three different sizes in one room, and reveals that are rarely as square as they look.

The thing your designer may have recommended without explaining. It hides the track completely, which is why curtains in a period room can start at the cornice instead of halfway down the wall.

Such a pleasure working with Sara and Katherine at KB curtains and blinds. So helpful for a novice like me, great guidance and suggestions on fabrics.

Katherine helped us choose fabrics for our curtains and also a fitted bolster cushion. The fabric options she presented to us were all gorgeous, once we chose the fabric they were beautifully fitted.

Katherine made four gorgeous roman blinds for my bedroom. Every part of the process was a pleasure – I loved the fabric she suggested – and there was a huge amount of choice.
