Chelsea Curtain design

The Perfect Project – Colour, Pattern and Texture Beautifully Layered To Provide Drama In This Chelsea Curtain Design Project, Just Off Sloane Square.

When we got the call from Alex, we were delighted to be appointed as the soft furnishings partner on another of his wonderful projects – this time in Chelsea. He was completing a flat renovation and needed our guidance and expertise on window dressings and soft furnishings. Working with an interior designer such as Alex is always a joy as his colour schemes are unique and inspiring.

Another Wonderful Collaboration With Interior Designer, Alex Meachen

My first step was to visit the apartment with Alex. I found a jewel of a property with its own private garden. Still, being a lower ground floor apartment, the challenge was to overcome the functional needs of the window dressings – maintaining privacy during the daytime and keeping the street lights out at night – without compromising on style and drama.

We recommended a combination of stylish privacy options, including cafe curtains and sheer roller blinds at the front of the property, and a combination of blackout Roman blinds and curtains, which also gave us the opportunity to dial up the style credentials.

Cafe curtains are perfect for this unusually shaped window and provide stylish privacy. The alternative would have been an ugly-shaped blind, which would have killed the scheme. Instead, we’ve created a whimsical study area.

Triangular Window In An L-Shaped Room? No Problem!

For example, we used a full-length curtain as a room divider and blackout solution in an unusually shaped room to create a bedroom sanctuary. We also helped source fabrics and trims, giving Alex and his style-savvy clients a treasure trove of wonderful patterns, textures and trimmings to choose from.

Alex and his client visited our studio for two joyful hours at the start of this Chelsea curtain design project, during which we created stunning fabric combinations for each room. We chose fabrics for window dressings, headboards and cushions, ensuring the schemes were perfectly balanced and joyful to the eye.

In this bedroom, it is clear who the hero is – this amazing headboard! We’ve kept the curtains and blind neutral but have added a trim to create interest and pull the scheme together.

It Takes An Army Of Experts

When you see the final result of a project such as this Chelsea curtain design, you will most likely not be aware of just how many expert craftspeople are involved. From carefully measuring up with my installation team leader, Tom, to my ultra-reliable delivery driver and the workroom and workshop experts who make the curtains, blinds and soft furnishings, everyone is absolutely focused on quality.

This focus allows the client and interior designers we work with to get the fantastic, dramatic finished look they dreamed of without any sleepless nights or nasty surprises.

I love the combinations of fabrics used here for the headboard and cushions to create a rich, layered look. For more on this, see our article, ‘Soft Furnishings 101’ on layering here.
