Houston design firm needs luxury curtains in Kensington
Being trusted by interior design clients to deliver their vision safely is one thing. When that designer (and client) are 5000 miles away, this goes to a whole new level.

When the call came through from Houston, Texas, mentioning: ‘luxury curtains in Kensington’, I was intrigued. It was cold and bleak in London and I momentarily let myself drift off into a daydream of jetting off to warmer and brighter climes on an important curtain assignment.
The call—well, email, actually—was from Beth Lindsey, founder of Beth Lindsey Interior Design, who had been appointed to completely re-design and re-model a two-bedroom apartment in the heart of Kensington, West London. The apartment, located just a stone’s throw from The High Street and Kensington Palace, needed a major overhaul.
So there would be no dream trip for me. In fact, our brief was to create luxury curtains in Kensington working with Beth Lindsey Interior Design, a top-tier design practice based in Houston, Texas, specialising in exquisite classical interiors with a modern twist that stands the test of time. They brought their confidence, style, and magic to London, creating a sophisticated and luxurious apartment design with a bold yet calm feel that perfectly complements the vibe of the cosmopolitan neighbourhood.
Beth and her team, needed a local drapery expert they could trust to measure the windows, advise on hardware and make and install all the curtains, blinds and hardware.
Whilst this request is unusual in the respect that our interior designer client and her client were very remote – being based in the US. In fact, our process was able to cope with this – we measured up carefully as usual. And again, as usual, discovered one or two quirks of the building that our installation would have to work around.
Beth sent us a detailed brief, including all the exquisite fabrics and braids she had specified. It was then up to us to work our magic. We loved the Holland and Sherry Andes fabric with Samuel and Sons Verdon Epingle border which Beth specified for the living room. Of course, we don’t always get fabrics specified – sometimes it’s more brief around a certain look and feel, and we source and present fabric ideas for curtains, blinds and soft furnishings.
Early in the project, we provided a detailed itemised quotation to help with budgeting. As the project progressed, we made several trips to the site to measure up and think through all the tiny details to make sure the curtains and hardware were perfect. We don’t limit site visits—some projects need a few more—and that’s fine. Being sure of the plan and the details is a key part of our approach, and there’s no substitute for being there.
We made all the curtains and blinds by hand, allowing plenty of time to hand sew all the braids. We then installed all the hardware and returned to install the curtains and blinds after the contractors had finished and the site had been cleaned. The curtains were hung, steamed, and dressed to perfection.
We used classical French metal curtain poles and were absolutely spoilt with the opportunity to work with great-quality fabrics and braids from Holland & Sherry, Schumacher, Kravet, Samuel & Sons, Holly Hunt, and Kelly Wearstler.
We also made a bespoke chaise longue to the exact design provided by Beth, checking all the details with Beth to ensure the chaise was perfect for the space. With a carefully designed and crafted Walnut frame, polished to the right finish.
‘Working remotely on a project always has challenges, but you and your team made the Kensington project effortless. The draperies complete the room and are spectacular. The chaise lounge you custom-built for us is a perfect spot to sit and relax, read a book or reflect on the day.
Again, you and your team are a dream to work with beautiful workmanship and so professional.’
