A recent Notting Hill project: curved bay windows
We delivered the soft furnishings package for an entire Notting Hill house alongside the design team at Bizaan, working closely with founder Amie McDonald and, as the build progressed, with the builders themselves. The package covered handmade curtains, blinds, shutters, banquette seating and upholstery for the home cinema.
The front elevation windows are curved. We surveyed and templated them, then sourced made-to-measure double curtain poles so the sheer and lined curtains could hang correctly on the curve. Every window had its quirks, so each needed tailor-made brackets and fittings for a proper fit. The master bedroom curtains run on motorised wave tracks, designed around getting the best possible blackout.
Working to Bizaan’s design brief and colour palette, we sourced fabrics and trimmings from Holland & Sherry, Chase Erwin, Mark Alexander, Lizzo, Romo Black and Samuel & Sons. Because most of the windows were very large, we used neutral fabrics with bold braids and trimmings to carry the drama; on the smaller windows we switched to bold patterns for a change of tempo. Everything was measured, made and installed by hand.
We went on to help source fabrics for the bespoke furniture Bizaan commissioned, including inlaid fabric panels for a bed and dressing table, and to design the kitchen banquette seating — advising the joinery manufacturers on the back panels so we could upholster a curved, fluted back, and specifying the seat composition for comfort and durability. The home cinema seating was re-upholstered in Linwood Omega dark red velvet.
