A recent Kensington project: curtains for a Houston design firm
The request came from Beth Lindsey, founder of Beth Lindsey Interior Design in Houston, Texas, who had been appointed to completely re-design and re-model a two-bedroom apartment in the heart of Kensington, W8, a stone’s throw from the High Street and Kensington Palace. She needed a local drapery expert her team could trust to measure the windows, advise on hardware and make and install all the curtains, blinds and hardware.
We measured up carefully, as usual, and found one or two quirks of the building that the installation would have to work around. Early in the project we provided a detailed itemised quotation to help with budgeting, and we made several trips to the site to think through the details. We don’t limit site visits. Being sure of the plan and the details is a key part of our approach.
Beth sent a detailed brief with the fabrics and braids she had specified, including a Holland and Sherry Andes fabric with a Samuel and Sons Verdon Epingle border for the living room. We made all the curtains and blinds by hand, allowing plenty of time to hand sew the braids, and used classical French metal curtain poles. We installed all the hardware, then returned to install the curtains and blinds once the contractors had finished and the site had been cleaned. The curtains were hung, steamed and dressed to perfection.
We also made a bespoke chaise longue to Beth’s exact design, with a walnut frame polished to the right finish. Her verdict: ‘Working remotely on a project always has challenges, but you and your team made the Kensington project effortless.
